Just want to make you aware of the 37211 PC Users Club page sponsored by
Yahoo:
http://clubs.yahoo.com/clubs/pcusersgroup37211
This club page will allow anyone in the group to post items, info or
problems so that everyone in the group can see them and respond to them. I
will put a link to this page in the right hand navigation bar on the group
web pages. I am making this link the "home" page for my browser so that I
can check in on it on a daily basis. So go ahead, join the club and post a
comment!
http://www.pcusers.org/wgindex.html
The above link will take you to the search engine for the group's web pages.
At the top of each of the groups Web pages at
http://www.pcusers.org
there is a graphic box named "Search This Website". Clicking on this box will also
take you to the search engine. When the search engine box pops up you can
customize your search. I suggest that you check the "jump to line" box
as this will allow you to jump to the specific line of the particular web
page on which your search item is located.
A great deal of editorial help and submission of items has come from Roger Imai rtimai@mindspring.com. He has been invaluable in helping me to make sure that both this newsletter and the web site are quality products.

Tip#1
Win98 keeps the last five backups Registry Checker creates. To save more backups, open \WINDOWS\SCANREG.INI with Notepad and change the MaxBackupCopies= value from 5 to a higher number.

Roger's Corner: rtimai@mindspring.com
I forgot to bring this up at the meeting. Microsoft's DirectX 7.0 upgrade may cause IE to crash on some sites that are still running version 6.0. I experienced a few incidents, which resulted in an unrecoverable lock-up, both mouse and keyboard became unresponsive. Oddly enough, the Power On/Off button didn't do anything, but the Reset button worked. I guess I could also use the APC surge-arrest switch. And most of the crashes occurred on Microsoft (MSN affiliate) sites. Just in case others experience the same symptoms. It might NOT be your fault, after all!

Humor:
When Lawrence Russell Brewer Jr., the second defendant to go to trial in the 1998 Jasper, Texas, racial dragging death, showed up in a Bryan, Texas, courtroom in September 1999, the arresting sheriff had trouble recognizing him because Brewer was so much heavier (having gone from a 30-inch waist to a 40). Brewer's explanation was that he so feared that a Y2K computer crash would wipe out his prison commissary account that he had decided to spend down all his money right away on junk food. http://www.newsoftheweird.com
